Privacy Training Workshop for Federal Government Agencies (2019)


                                           

This workshop provides training on requirements for the handling of personal information for Federal Government departments and agencies under the Commonwealth Privacy Act.

The course covers obligations under the:

 •  Australian Privacy Principles (APPs);
 •  Australian Government Agencies Privacy Code (APP Code); and
 •  Data Breach Notification Scheme (DBN Scheme).

The learning objectives of the workshop are to equip participants with a detailed knowledge of:

 •  legal requirements under the APPs, APP Code and DBN Scheme;
 •  privacy governance mechanisms required to meet obligations;
 •  how to apply requirements in practical scenarios;
 •  how to identify and manage privacy risks and incidents; and

 •  how to perform the role of Privacy Officer or privacy manager.

Course content, including cases studies, is specific to Federal Government agencies. 

Attendees receive a bound Participant Handbook containing course materials which also provides a privacy reference handbook for future use.

Presenter

Jeremy Douglas-Stewart is a specialist privacy consultant and has been recognised as a leading privacy lawyer in Australia and corporate workshop presenter. Jeremy has extensive experience in advising businesses and government on privacy laws and data management practices, has published widely in the field of privacy (including as author of an Australian privacy law loose-leaf reporting service) and has over 15 years’ experience in delivering privacy training seminars. Jeremy was a member of the Privacy Commissioner's Consultative Group during the review of the Privacy Act in 2004/05 and of the Australian Law Reform Commission's Privacy Principles Roundtable in 2007.

These workshops cover obligations for both federal agencies and private sector organisations (there are minor variations between the two), do not include the APP Code module and offer the DBN Scheme module as optional.
