 Data Breach Notification Scheme Training Workshop

(NOTE: This workshop is preceded by a Privacy Training Workshop)

 

Description

This workshop provides training on the requirements of the new mandatory Data Breach Notification Scheme ("DBN Scheme") under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) commencing on 22 February 2018

The course equips participants with a detailed understanding of scheme requirements, including how to:

 •  assess whether a breach triggers notification obligations;
 •  criteria on which to base decisions;
 •  apply the scheme in real-life data breach scenarios;
 •  develop compliance measures;
 •  seamlessly incorporate such measures within an existing privacy compliance framework or data breach response plan.

Attendees receive a DBN Scheme Handbook (used through-out the workshop) containing:

 •  detailed guidance on scheme requirements and how to apply them;
 •  Flowchart of scheme requirements to identify obligations;
 •  Model Data Breach Notification Statement;
 •  Template Data Breach Notification Statement;
 •  Checklist of issues to cover in contractor agreements;
 •  Sample clauses for in contractor agreements;
 •  Overview of key elements of a Data Breach Management Framework, including Data Breach Response Management Policy and Data Breach Response Plan.

Presenter

Jeremy Douglas-Stewart has been Principal Consultant at Privacy Law Consulting Australia since 2003. Jeremy was a member of the Federal Privacy Commissioner's Consultative Group during her review of the Privacy Act in 2004-05 and of the Australian Law Reform Commission's Privacy Principles Roundtable in 2007. Jeremy is author of the Australian Privacy Law Handbook, a national privacy law loose-leaf reporting service.
